Course Content

The Core modules in Mathematics cover Co-ordinate Geometry, Surds and Indices, Quadratics, Transformations of Graphs, Sequences and Series, Differentiation and Integration, Exponentials and Logarithms and Trigonometry. The Statistics module includes Organising and Summarising data, Linear Regression and Correlation, Discrete Random Variables and Probability, including the Normal Distribution.




Skills gained from taking this course

Studying Mathematics at A Level allows students to explore in more depth the topics studied at GCSE. There is a strong emphasis on algebra. Students learn highly transferable skills such as logic, independent thought and problem solving. Wherever possible pupils apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Mathematics is highly regarded by universities and future employers.



Entry Requirements (all A2 subjects carry a minimum requirement of a D-grade AS level)

The school offer for entry is 5 GCSEs at B Grade and above with English Language or Literature and Mathematics at A* - C grade.

Pupils must have at least a B grade on the Higher Tier GCSE paper.



Entry Suggestions

Students should have at least a grade B on the Higher Level GCSE paper. Students must be prepared to undertake independent study and have a passion for the subject.

A or A* performance at algebra is particularly important as it forms a large part of the AS syllabus.

Revision of the algebra topics of higher GCSE in preparation for an Entry test in September.
