Course Content
You will study ICT in a variety of different contexts and create a range of documents and ICT solutions. You will learn about corporate identity, new technologies and their impact on individuals and society. You will be able to harness the power of the internet, both for sophisticated research and for web design, and you will create professional multimedia applications for a set brief. Along the way, graphics skills, formal project management techniques and evaluative skills will be developed. You will find that ICT is a useful option alongside a wide range of other subjects, or as a step towards further study in the area. There are five coursework units and one exam.
Skills gained from taking this course
The Applied ICT GCE allows students to:
-Develop practical skills in graphic design, desktop publishing, web design, blogging and multimedia programming as well as improve use of office applications
-Gain an understanding of the components and applications of information systems in a business scenario
-Learn to work effectively as part of a user-focused design process
-Develop formal project management skills and evaluation skills as part of working to a set brief
Entry Requirements (all A2 subjects carry a minimum requirement of a D-grade AS level)
The school offer for entry is 5 GCSEs at B Grade and above with English Language or Literature and Mathematics at A* - C grade.
If ICT has been studied as a GCSE or equivalent qualification, candidates should have achieved minimum grade B.
Entry Suggestions
If ICT has not been studied as a formal qualification, then evidence of a sincere interest in ICT or an electronic portfolio of ICT work should be provided.
If you are made an offer and meet the required grade, you will be expected to complete the following before your first lesson in September:
Invest in a USB memory stick for backup of your ICT work
Investigate typography and fonts. Prepare an A4 poster about a font that you like
Investigate the history of computer gaming and prepare a timeline of key events
Resources needed for this course (Books, Field-trips etc)
