Course Content

This is a Portfolio-based qualification, ideal for students who wish to pursue a career which involves working with other people. Many different aspects of study are carried out, including learning how to communicate effectively and factors which affect behaviour of individuals, as well as more specific skills such as learning how to plan and run an activity with service users, producing a specialised diet for a particular dietary need and learning basic handling and practical skills used in care settings. The following units are taken:
Unit 1. Working to Quality Practise in Care Settings
Unit 2 . Working with Service Users
Unit 3. Behavioural Awareness in Care Settings
Unit 4. Applied Practical Care in Settings
Unit 6. Applied Nutrition and Dietetics
Unit 9. Creative Activities for Service Users





Skills gained from taking this course

Practical and theoretical knowledge of how to work with with other people, especially in care settings. You will learn how to communicate with a range of people as well as more specific skills that would be needed in a care setting.



Entry Requirements (all A2 subjects carry a minimum requirement of a D-grade AS level)

The school offer for entry is 5 GCSEs at B Grade and above with English Language or Literature and Mathematics at A* - C grade.

Originally this course was designed as part of a 'suite' to be offered to candidates who had 5 A*-C grades. The only requirement is previously obtaining a C grade in GCSE Science or HSC.



Entry Suggestions

C grade at GCSE HSC if taken.




If you are made an offer and meet the required grade, you will be expected to complete the following before your first lesson in September:


Identify a care-providing centre in your local area and arrange to visit the centre.
Write a review of the different types of service user who might need assistance from a professional care-giver.
Describe the qualities that they think a good Care Provider would have.
