Course Content

The course is split into two main units at A/S. The first - 'Global Challenges' contains the topics Global Hazards where the study of hydro meteorological and geophysical hazards will be undertaken and then a thorough examination of the science and politics of Climate change is completed. The second part of 'Global Challenges' involves the examination of the role and impact of globalisation and international trade.
The second topic 'Environmental Investigations' uses a combination of fieldtrip experience and lesson research to gain skills in effective investigation skills on coastal areas and urban vs rural redevelopment.




Skills gained from taking this course

The main skills gained during this course are debating skills, reasoning and oratory skills, investigative skills, analytical and practical hands on fieldwork experience. The fieldwork experience has many transferable skills particularly in the environmental fields and research. Skills development occurs through a series of lessons, fieldtrips, lectures outside of school and the Student Earth Summit where pupils will have the chance to meet industry professionals and listen to seasoned experts talk about the challenges of climate change.



Entry Requirements (all A2 subjects carry a minimum requirement of a D-grade AS level)

The school offer for entry is 5 GCSEs at B Grade and above with English Language or Literature and Mathematics at A* - C grade.

A grade B or above at GCSE and experience in fieldwork.



Entry Suggestions

Students taking AS level Geography at St Marylebone need to be independent thinkers, adept at individual research, willing to commit to an exciting and contemporary subject, have 95% attendance and be able to complete all homework on time, every time. They must also be confident in expressing and justifying their own opinions
