Welcome from the Director of Post-16 Education
Year 12 and 13 should be the most exciting, challenging and fun years of education. Students choose their subjects, lead whole school activities and are on the springboard to Higher Education.
At St Marylebone students excel academically because of an outstanding level of pastoral support. The students are amazing at caring for each other and an excellent team of tutors, lead by experienced Heads of Years and supported by a Pastoral Assistant and the whole school's pastoral systems provide encouragement, advice and experience so that each student is given the opportunity to flourish. This year we are particularly pleased to be launching a new Personal Development Programme with leaders in the field, Raleigh International.
Learning at this level and making life-changing decisions is challenging for both students and parent(s)/carer(s) and at the school we want to acknowledge that success is a partnership between the school, student and parent(s)/carer(s) and so as well as providing support for students we have a regular programme of meetings for parent(s)/carer(s) so that everyone involved understands the challenges and process ahead and how they can best play their part and support success.
We offer a broad range of subjects and we are particularly excited about the introduction in 2009 of the ICT Diploma. However, we firmly believe that learning and intellectual excitement occurs both inside and outside the classroom and also offer an excellent range of trips and enrichment and engagement activities so that every student can develop his/her own talents and fully prosper.
Tutor groups, Student Council, the Head Girl's Team (which does include boys!) and the prefect and mentoring systems mean that students can make their voice heard and ensure the school is theirs in a significant way. This will be particularly important in September 2009 as we move into a new Sixth Form College building on Blandford Street. This includes a fantastic common room, cafè, purpose built learning and study areas but the plans also have many opportunities for the class of 2011 to leave their own mark.
We hope that you found the Open Evening helpful. If you have any questions after the evening please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Welcome from Head Girl, Hannah Robb
.
Years 12 and 13 are crucial to young people not only as formative academic years but in terms of personal development. St Marylebone successfully facilitates each of its pupils efforts to combine the impossible task of achieving their potential during their A levels whilst simultaneously creating friendships and support networks to carry you into higher education and the working world.
Each pupil in this school is driven by two things; their own ability to work and the sense of community here. The confidence needed to apply (and fight for) a position on the Head Girl Team, or to achieve excellence in challenging pieces of work is all gained from an atmosphere of support and encouragement provided by the teachers, by your friends, or by someone passing you in the corridor that will congratulate you on your effort in the school play.
The choices are endless, no matter what your ambition. We have: youth parliament; choirs; sports teams; the Dance Company; the Nomadic Theatre Company; opportunities to become a Performing Arts Ambassador, the list goes on. Coming to St Marylebone means entering a community that will demand all of your talents and efforts in order to fulfil every aspect of school life here.

School Mission Statement
The St. Marylebone School, a Church of England Foundation, aims to achieve the highest standards of effort, behaviour and commitment so that all pupils have an opportunity to realise their full potential. We seek to inspire a love of learning and a genuine respect for all members of our multi-cultural, multi-faith community. As a church school we nurture respect for religious, moral and spiritual values. We aim to help and enable pupils to:
- develop lively, enquiring minds and the ability to question and argue rationally;
- acquire knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a fast changing world;
- develop a full range of skills to meet a variety of challenges;
- appreciate human achievement and aspirations;
- understand the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations;
- gain self confidence and a sense of worth; and
- learn how to work responsibly and with consideration for others.
The fulfilment of these aims creates a well-ordered community, with high standards and a caring approach, which recognizes that the purpose of school is to equip pupils with the skills they will require as balanced, mature and fulfilled individuals in our society.
