Course Content
This course enables contemporary chemistry contexts to be included within the lessons. Students will study different aspects of chemistry that are often in the media, and that affect their lives. Important required knowledge and understanding of the fundamental chemistry concepts are covered in order to explain many different aspects of contemporary chemistry, such as climate change, green chemistry, pharmaceuticals and chemistry research. The course has a long record of excellence as it is founded Edexcel Chemistry and Nuffield specifications and it covers the fundamental building blocks of chemistry such as Atomic structure, Energetics, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic chemical reactions.
Skills gained from taking this course
The skills gained in this course are many and varied. Students will develop excellent practical skills with high levels of precision and variety. Students will develop their ability to use and understand logical argument. They will gain a better understanding of how the world works and how they can change it. They will also develop their mathematical skills and how to apply numerical skills in different situations. They will also be able to investigate questions that interest them.
Entry Requirements (all A2 subjects carry a minimum requirement of a D-grade AS level)
The school offer for entry is 5 GCSEs at B Grade and above with English Language or Literature and Mathematics at A* - C grade.
Either at least grade B in Science GCSE and grade B in Additional Science and grade B in Mathematics
Or at least grade B in Chemistry GCSE and grade B in Mathematics.
NB Applied Additional Science will not be accepted instead of Additional Science
If you are made an offer and meet the required grade, you will be expected to complete the following before your first lesson in September:
Review your GCSE Chemistry notes to find information on assumed knowledge from GCSE.
