School Trips
Year 8 Activity Holiday
An activity holiday is offered to all pupils in Year 8. The whole year group has the opportunity to participate in a residential trip in July. The pupils experience a range of activities, including rock climbing, abseiling and problem solving.
KS3 Ski Trip - Italy
The PE department organises the annual ski trip to Italy. The trip is hugely popular with pupils and an enriching experience.
Fixtures
St Marylebone participates in numerous fixtures throughout the year. Pupils are encouraged to represent the school. Our sport's teams do very well in Westminster and we participate in the tournaments organised by The Westminster Sports Unit, as well as other fixtures with local independent schools. We also take part in the Westminster Swimming Gala and Athletics competition.
Sports Day
Our Sports Day is held in Regent's Park in July and is a real highlight in the sporting calendar. It is an inter-house event for pupils in Years 7 to 10 and a really enjoyable day.
Sports Ambassadors in St Marylebone
At St Marylebone Nicole Fox is currently one of the two Westminster Young Ambassadors, taking part in a scheme run by The Youth Sport Trust, aimed at encouraging young people from their borough (Westminster) to get involved in sport. In addition to this Westminster has introduced roles of Sports Ambassadors for schools in which Ella Brown of year 10 and Cheyene Green of year 12 have been selected. They too will encourage young people to participate in sport focusing mainly on pupils from St Marylebone.
Inter-form Competition
In addition to clubs and timetabled PE we organise regular inter-form competition where houses compete against each other for points, tallied throughout the year. Competitions include bench ball, netball and cross country and usually take place during lunch breaks.

Key Stage 4
Core PE
In Years 10 and 11 PE pupils follow eight week modules encompassing areas from the national curriculum. These include games, fitness, trampolining, rounders and volleyball. Pupils are expected to improve their awareness of health and fitness and to take responsibility for developing their own fitness level. Pupils will continue to improve their skills, develop their use of tactics and take on the role of officiator.
GCSE PE
Pupils will develop their practical activities, theory work and analysis of performance. They will be assessed in four areas of activity, they must show a good understanding of the rules and organisation of each area. Practical course work - 25%; Practical exam - 25%; Written Paper - 40%; Analysis of performance - 10%
Below is a list of activities that you can be assessed in. For your final practical exam you will be assessed in four activities. We will teach you the main activities such as fitness, dance trampoline, netball, rounders etc but if you regularly train in a sport outside school such as Judo or horse riding we can come to your club to assess you. Please see a member of the PE department if you have any questions.
Key Stage 5
Optional PE lessons are timetabled on the 6th form curriculum and there are a range of extra curricular clubs on offer as well as opportunities to join teams. The BTEC Sports and Exercise Science is offered in the options but will only run if there are sufficient numbers interested
BTEC Sports and Exercise Science
This Award is recognised by universities and colleges of further education. It is designed to allow you to go to study sport science at degree level or vocational courses. The vocational nature of the course will also equip you with the skills required to make a career and find employment in many sport and Exercise environments.
Entry Requirements
You must meet the entry requirements for St Marylebone 6th form as well as a C at GCSE PE / Human Biology and a commitment to playing sport in a non-school environment.
Course Overview
BTEC sport and exercise science is a vocational qualification, equivalent to one full A LEVEL. The course is split into six units across two years. Your teachers will regularly assess you and the criteria you have covered will be tracked so you will always be aware of your progress.
Assessment Procedures
Units are assessed by a portfolio system. Over two years you will collect evidence to demonstrate you have achieved the criteria set by the exam board. Evidence will be collected in a variety of ways, through written tasks, research projects, and observations by your teacher and video of practical performance. At the end of the course you can gain a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Each level relates to a C, B or A at A Level and worth the equivalent points for UCAS.
